Tell me more
There’s a quirky, Fifties influence in the hand-drawn designs, which are absolutely on-trend for the current fashion for all things retro. The brand new Rosetta fabric would be perfect for curtains or cushions, while the Tea Time and Kitchenalia linens are spot-on for a kitchen. Watch out for a new range of accessories, too, including bunting kits and tea cosies.
Who’s behind it?
Paula Nicholls, who was brought up in Penzance and now lives in nearby Newlyn. After training in art she moved to Bristol to work as a journalist then an events organiser, but couldn’t resist the lure of Cornwall and moved back a few years ago. She launched Betty Boyns as an online operation in 2009, opening the first shop in October 2010.
What’s the shop like?
The granite-fronted shop is bright and airy inside, with a sisal floor and antique white-painted walls. It’s beautifully arranged with colourful products, and rows of bunting add to the cheerful atmosphere. Selected vintage home items have been sourced to add to it’s special mix. The logo outside shows Paula’s mother, who was called Betty Boyns, outside the family’s farm in Cornwall.
